Nkawkaw Central Market reconstruction to begins today
Phase one of the reconstruction of the Nkawkaw Central Market in the Eastern Region is set to commence on Friday, April 24, as authorities move to modernise the facility and improve trading conditions in the municipality.
Ahead of the start of construction works, traders have begun preparations to relocate from the current market to the Nkawkaw Tudu Market to make way for the project.
While the traders say they support the redevelopment initiative, many have raised concerns about conditions at the temporary site.
Some market women noted that the area becomes muddy during rainfall, making trading difficult and limiting customer access. Others also indicated that the space at the Tudu Market may be inadequate to accommodate all affected traders.
They are therefore appealing to authorities to undertake improvements at the temporary location, including proper ground levelling and drainage, to ensure a more conducive trading environment during the reconstruction period.
Despite the concerns, some traders expressed optimism about the project, saying the redevelopment of the Nkawkaw Central Market will deliver long-term benefits, enhance business activities, and boost economic growth in the area.
