OSP probes five fuel companies over tax evasion, petroleum irregularities
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has conducted coordinated, court-approved raids at five fuel storage depots and related Bulk Distribution Company (BDC) facilities, amid an investigation into alleged irregularities in petroleum imports.
The OSP said the operation focuses on suspected under-reporting of imported fuel volumes, misrepresentation of product types during depot transfers, and potential tax evasion. Early indications point to possible collusion involving some BDCs and officials from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), and the National Security Secretariat, with intermediaries reportedly used to facilitate questionable financial transactions.
Companies currently under scrutiny include Platon Oil and Gas Ltd, Sentuo Oil, Akwaaba Oil, and Sahara Oil and Gas Ltd.
Authorities have not disclosed details of arrests or estimates of financial losses, stressing that the inquiry is still in progress.
The OSP reiterated its dedication to promoting accountability and transparency within Ghana’s petroleum sector, warning that all violations will be thoroughly investigated.
