The Chief Resident Engineer for the Ofankor-Nsawam Road Project, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, says construction works on the highway have reached 82 per cent completion.

According to him, the outstanding works are largely within the Nsawam enclave.

Ing Bempong told Channel One News on Tuesday, May 26, most of the major structural components of the project have already been completed.

“Currently, the total calculation is that we are 82% complete technically. What is left to be done is the Nsawam section, and we are going to move about 300 cubic metres of earthworks,” he stated.

He explained that the remaining phase of the project will involve earthworks and other finishing activities before the road is fully opened to traffic.

The Ofankor-Nsawam highway, a key route linking Accra to communities along the eastern corridor, has experienced several delays since construction began.

The project missed its revised completion deadline of May 21, 2025, after earlier failing to meet the initial target date of July 20, 2024.

Authorities have attributed the delays to unresolved compensation claims by affected persons and difficulties relocating utility installations belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Limited.

Officials are currently seeking an extension of time to complete the remaining works.
