A 19-year-old Senior High School (SHS) student was shot in the stomach on Wednesday, May 6, during a demolition exercise in the Domeabra-Danchira area of the Ga South Municipality.

The incident occurred as police officers were supervising a demolition operation reportedly initiated by a private developer, Frederick Kofi Asare.

Eyewitnesses and family members alleged that the victim was stepping out of his residence when officers began firing indiscriminately.

The gunshot wound was described as life-threatening, with the bullet passing through his stomach.

The student was initially taken to the FK Effah Community Hospital, where Administrator Ibrahim Napson confirmed the severity of his condition, before being referred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for further treatment.

The demolition follows reports that more than 1,000 structures in Domeabra and Danchira were targeted for removal with police support.

However, the head of the Nii Djan Bi Amu family of Danchira, Nii Gamu Osamanu Tackie Okai, has disputed the developer's claims to the land, stating that no such sale occurred.

He has called for intervention from the President, the Chief Justice, and national security agencies to address the situation.

The shooting has led to increased tensions within the municipality, as local residents demand an investigation into the conduct of the police and the circumstances surrounding the demolition exercise.
