Roads Minister warns contractors against unjustified project delays

News
The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced that the government will no longer grant automatic contract extensions to firms that fail to execute road projects diligently.

Speaking during a nationwide inspection tour on Monday, May 11, 2026, the Minister warned that contractors who deliberately slow down or abandon sites without justification will not be granted additional time.

Minister Agbodza stated that some contractors suspend work for months and later request extensions, a practice he emphasized the government will no longer tolerate.

He noted that extensions must be based on legitimate reasons, and firms cannot "sleep on the job" and later claim delays were due to factors beyond their control.

While the ministry remains open to addressing genuine challenges that affect project execution, the minister stressed that contractors must demonstrate commitment and comply with their agreements.

He pointed out that some firms are currently progressing ahead of schedule, proving that timely completion is achievable.

This warning is part of a broader effort to ensure accountability and the efficient delivery of critical road infrastructure.
