Three SHSs to face prosecution over procurement violations: PAC
The Public Accounts Committee has referred three Senior High Schools and their officials to the Attorney-General’s Department for possible prosecution over procurement infractions flagged in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Department report.
The schools—Breman Essikuma Technical Institute, Eguafo Senior High School, and Efutu Senior High School—were cited during the Committee’s ongoing sittings in Takoradi in the Western Region.
Speaking to media on Tuesday, May 5, Ranking Member Samuel Atta Mills said the action follows multiple breaches of public procurement rules uncovered during proceedings.
He singled out Eguafo Senior High School, alleging that the institution purchased items valued at GH¢122,192 from 19 suppliers without adhering to competitive tendering requirements.
Mr Atta Mills stressed that procurement regulations require entities to obtain at least three quotations before awarding contracts, but noted that some institutions bypassed this process.
He further alleged instances where vendors were approached only to provide documentation for audit purposes, even though they were not genuinely considered for the contracts.
The Committee says the referrals are intended to ensure accountability and enforce compliance with public procurement laws.
