The Gomoa East District Education Directorate in the Central Region is targeting a 90 percent pass rate for candidates sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The district’s overall performance has ranged between 80 and 84 percent in recent years.

However, the Directorate says intensified preparations ahead of this year’s exams should push results higher.

A total of 6,560 candidates are expected to write the exams at 30 centers across the district.

Public Relations Officer for GES in Gomoa East, Abena Kwakyewaa Linda told Accra 100.5 FM news that WAEC has been officially notified to provide support for candidates with special needs.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, has cautioned candidates against examination malpractices.

He urged them to give their best while strictly complying with all exam regulations.

The MP also pledged to support the secondary education of candidates who excel.

He made the pledge when he donated mathematical sets to all BECE candidates in the constituency ahead of the examination.

Mr. Paitoo further appealed to invigilators to avoid any form of intimidation that could cause candidates to panic in the exam hall.
