The Ghana Police Service has foiled a planned robbery in Obuasi and arrested two suspects in connection with the plot and an earlier attack on a foreign national.

In a statement dated April 22, police said the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate acted on intelligence received on April 16, 2026, about a group of armed men preparing to carry out a robbery in the area.

Police arrested Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as “Iddi,” at his hideout in Bedieso.

During interrogation, he admitted being part of a six-member gang that carried out a robbery at New Baakoyeden on April 12, 2026.

According to police, the gang attacked an Indian national at his residence and stole GH₵150,000. Fuseini said the robbery was planned based on information from one Ibrahim, an employee of the victim, who allegedly told the group that his employer kept large sums of money at home.

A second suspect, Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” was arrested on April 20, 2026, at Gausu in Obuasi. He admitted involvement in planning the robbery and said the group had also planned another attack on a distribution company near Mawuli Hotel.

Police said both suspects are standing trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court in a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.

A manhunt is underway for other members of the gang identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim. Police are also working to recover a pump-action gun and a locally made pistol believed to be in their possession.

The Police Service said it remains committed to maintaining security in Obuasi and urged the public to provide information to assist investigations.
