University of Ghana, Mahama Cares explore partnership on health research

The University of Ghana and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund also known as Mahama Cares are exploring opportunities for collaboration aimed at advancing healthcare research, innovation, and medical training in Ghana.

The discussions took place during a meeting between the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, and the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku.

The engagement focused on identifying areas of partnership between the two institutions, particularly in the fields of research into Non-Communicable Diseases, healthcare innovation, and the training of medical professionals.

Participants at the meeting described the collaboration as a strategic alignment between two institutions committed to national development through improvements in health and education.

Professor Appiah Amfo noted that the progress of every nation depends significantly on strong health and education systems, describing the Ghana Medical Trust Fund as a timely intervention capable of supporting critical healthcare initiatives.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of collaborative approaches in addressing Ghana’s growing burden of Non-Communicable diseases through research, policy support, and innovation.

Officials expressed optimism about the potential impact of the partnership and the opportunities it presents for strengthening healthcare delivery and medical research in the country.
