President John Dramani Mahama has vowed to use his presidency to restore lasting peace in Bawku, a community that has long grappled with ethnic tensions.

Speaking during a visit to the Bawku Naaba Palace, President Mahama assured residents that his administration is committed to addressing the root causes of the conflict.

He announced plans to appoint key officials in various ministries and agencies to oversee peace-building initiatives in the area.

The President emphasized that resolving the Bawku conflict is one of his top priorities, urging residents to exercise patience as his government takes concrete steps toward ensuring stability.

Bawku has been a hotspot for ethnic clashes, primarily between the Kusasi and Mamprusi groups, with disputes over land ownership at the core of the conflict.

These longstanding tensions have often escalated into violence, leading to loss of life, displacement, and disruptions to socioeconomic activities.

President Mahama acknowledged the deep-seated nature of the conflict but expressed optimism that with the cooperation of all stakeholders, a sustainable solution can be achieved.

Addressing the gathering at the palace, President Mahama appealed to the people of Bawku to remain patient and united.

He assured them that his government is focused on creating an environment where residents can live and work without fear or harassment.

"My administration is committed to fostering peace in Bawku. Together, we will work to ensure that everyone can go about their daily activities without intimidation or fear. I urge you to support the government’s efforts and exercise patience as we work towards lasting peace,” he said.
