TB affects 44,000 Ghanaians annually- Deputy Minister calls for community-led action
Ghana is joining the global community to mark World Tuberculosis Day 2026, with a call for renewed commitment to end TB. Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, has emphasised the need for community-led action to combat the disease, which affects 44,000 Ghanaians annually.
Government efforts to strengthen diagnosis and care include AI-enabled digital X-ray systems, GeneXpert machines, and TB-LAM test kits.
Ghana Health Service Director-General, Dr Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, stressed the importance of finding and treating every TB case.
World Health Organisation(WHO) Country Representative, Fiona Braka, called for stronger leadership, increased investment, and empowered communities to end TB.
The commemoration emphasises that with strong leadership, adequate resources, and active community participation, ending TB as a public health threat is within reach.
