Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has led the donation of 40,000 boxes of sanitary pads and related products to 29 beneficiary schools in the Upper West Region.

The symbolic presentation forms part of a nationwide initiative aimed at providing free sanitary products to girls in both primary and secondary schools.

The distribution is intended to address period poverty by reducing the financial burden associated with menstrual hygiene and supporting girls to remain in school.

Presenting the items to selected basic, second-cycle and special schools, the Vice President said the intervention is designed to improve access to essential sanitary products while supporting the well-being of female students.

She also reiterated that the initiative is part of broader efforts by the administration of John Dramani Mahama to improve school attendance among girls.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, expressed appreciation for the donation, noting that it would contribute to better school attendance and improved welfare of beneficiaries.

The programme is expected to benefit up to two million girls from Primary Five to Senior High School nationwide.
