The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced that work is progressing steadily on a Specialist Cardiology Centre at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The Minister, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese, disclosed this in a social media post following an inspection visit by John Dramani Mahama on Sunday.

The visit formed part of the President’s ongoing “Resetting Ghana” tour, which seeks to assess key development projects across the country.

According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the facility—funded by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund—will house critical cardiology infrastructure, including a catheterisation laboratory (CATHLAB), a specialised unit currently unavailable across all five regions in northern Ghana.

He noted that the establishment of the centre is expected to significantly improve access to advanced cardiac care in the northern sector and reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment.

Construction of the facility is expected to be completed by the final quarter of 2026.

The project is part of broader government efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand specialised medical services nationwide.
