Bekwai MP challenges President Mahama’s job creation claims in SoNA

In a pointed intervention during a parliamentary session, Mr Ralph Poku-Adusei, Member of Parliament for Bekwai and a practising Catholic, questioned the accuracy of President John Dramani Mahama’s 2026 State of the Nation Address (SoNA).

Addressing the House, Hon. Poku-Adusei expressed concern over what he described as a stark discrepancy between the President’s claim of creating over 1 million jobs and the Finance Minister’s report in the 2026 Budget, which recorded only 9,553 job seekers placed in employment.

“Is there no fear of God in man, Mr. Speaker?” he asked, highlighting the moral and civic responsibility of accurate reporting.

The MP argued that Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution requires a factual and truthful account of the nation’s state, rather than a reiteration of campaign promises or budget highlights.

He emphasised that while macroeconomic indicators such as lower inflation and a stronger Cedi are important, ordinary Ghanaians continue to face eroded purchasing power and high utility tariffs.

Hon. Poku-Adusei’s critique reflects growing calls among citizens for transparency and accountability, urging leaders to ensure that national progress is felt in the daily lives of Ghanaians.

The session raises pressing questions about whether the President will address these concerns and provide a more accurate picture of Ghana’s economic and employment landscape.
