Disgruntled NPP members threaten to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ in 2028 elections
Disgruntled members and coordinators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atwima Mponua Constituency have issued an ultimatum to the national and regional party leadership, threatening to vote “skirt and blouse” in the 2028 general elections if constituency polls are not conducted by Friday.
The threat follows mounting frustration over the prolonged suspension of the constituency’s executive elections which, according to them, threatens to disenfranchise delegates in the party’s upcoming Ashanti Regional executive elections scheduled for next week.
Skirt and blouse voting is a Ghanaian political term referring to an electorate casting their ballot for a presidential candidate from one political party while voting for a parliamentary candidate from a rival party or an independent candidate.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s constituency office in Nyinahini, one of the coordinators, Philip K. Nyame, expressed deep frustration over what they described as systemic communication lapses and administrative delays from the party authorities.
The electoral process was halted nearly a month ago following an injunction placed on three electoral areas, forcing the national executives to suspend the entire constituency election exercise.
Tempers flared after coordinators received unconfirmed reports that the outgoing executive committee had been mandated to retain office indefinitely to manage constituency affairs.
Until that report, members claim regional or national headquarters had provided no official communication regarding a rescheduled date or legal updates.
