Eric Opoku’s office denies viral Facebook claims on alleged campaign activity in Savelugu
The office of Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, Hon. Eric Opoku, has dismissed as false a viral Facebook post alleging that his team is engaging in campaign activities in the Savelugu constituency in the Northern Region.
The post, attributed to one Alhassan Fusieni, claimed that individuals associated with the Minister were meeting delegates at polling station level in Savelugu and running a campaign that allegedly sought to undermine the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
It further alleged that the supposed campaign was promoting claims that Hon. Eric Opoku would select former Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu as a running mate, and was encouraging Northern delegates to reject Mr. Asiedu Nketiah on the basis that he was “not fit” to lead the party to victory in the 2028 elections.
However, the Minister’s office has strongly denied the allegations, describing the claims as baseless, misleading, and lacking any factual basis.
In a statement, the office clarified that Hon. Eric Opoku has not commissioned any group or individuals to campaign on his behalf in Savelugu or any other constituency, and urged the public to disregard the circulating social media post.
The statement also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, especially content capable of creating tension or division within the party.
It reaffirmed the Minister’s commitment to party unity and disciplined communication, stressing that his focus remains on his official duties in government and service delivery in the agricultural sector.
The office further encouraged supporters and the general public to verify information from credible sources before sharing on social media.![]()
