President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Ghana will introduce a free electronic visa (e-visa) regime for all African countries, effective May 25, 2026, in commemoration of Africa Day.

The announcement was made during his closing remarks following bilateral talks with Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is on a state visit to Ghana.

Under the new policy, African travellers will be able to apply for and obtain visas online at no cost.

President Mahama said the initiative is aimed at promoting Pan-Africanism, boosting tourism, and enhancing Ghana’s appeal as an investment destination.

He assured that, despite the visa waiver, robust security measures will be maintained to properly screen visitors.

The President also indicated that government efforts are ongoing to expand visa waiver agreements for Ghanaian passport holders, revealing that 23 such agreements have already been signed since he assumed office in 2025.

President Mahama noted that discussions between the Ghanaian and Zimbabwean delegations were extensive, covering sectors such as energy, trade and investment, tourism, health, agriculture, mining, education, defence and security, media, labour, sports, heritage, archives, and waste management.

He further announced that the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation between the two countries will convene every two years, supported by regular consultations to ensure effective implementation of agreed initiatives.
