Newly appointed Majority Leader in Parliament, James Agalga, has dismissed suggestions that he lacks the experience to lead the Majority Caucus, insisting that his record in Parliament speaks for itself.

The Builsa North MP said he does not believe any colleague can intimidate or bully him as he takes up the leadership role.

“I think that the end shall justify the means. Do I look like somebody who can be bullied? We leave the rest for the people to judge when we settle down to work,” he said.

Mr Agalga pointed to his eight years as Ranking Member and his current position as Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee as evidence of his experience in parliamentary leadership.

“I want to assure you that I am not new to leadership in Parliament. I have been Ranking Member for eight solid years. I am currently the chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee. And so, to that extent, it cannot be said that I am new to leadership,” he said.

“I am a full-term Member of Parliament. And so, I do not think that any colleague of mine in the House can bully me,” he added.

His comments followed remarks by former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, who questioned Mr Agalga's leadership qualities during an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Friday.

Mr Agalga was appointed Majority Leader by President John Dramani Mahama following the nomination of Mahama Ayariga as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

Mr Ayariga previously served as Majority Leader and is expected to vacate the position once Parliament approves his ministerial appointment.
