Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to intensify prayers and fasting as the nation prepares to confront pressing challenges in the aftermath of the December 7 elections.

Speaking during an end-of-year sermon at an Assemblies of God Church in Tamale on December 31, Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of divine intervention and collective effort to propel the nation forward.

Reflecting on the electoral journey, Mr. Mahama acknowledged the relative ease of the campaign and election phases compared to the task of governing a nation facing significant challenges.

“The easy part is over—the campaign and the elections were the easier phases.

Now the real work begins. If we prayed and fasted for a successful election, now is the time to pray and fast even more so that God will elevate our nation and make it the ‘Black Star’ of Africa again,” he said.

The President-elect highlighted the need for national unity and inclusivity, emphasizing that the challenges ahead require collective governance and collaboration across all political and societal sectors.

“The National Democratic Congress (NDC), despite its electoral victory, cannot address Ghana’s issues alone.

We need collaboration to ensure that the country is governed in the right direction,” he said.

Mr. Mahama called on Ghanaians to demonstrate their faith and rally behind efforts to rebuild and strengthen the nation, urging citizens to rise above political divides and work towards shared goals.

John Mahama’s return to the Presidency follows a decisive win in the December 7 elections, marking his comeback after a four-year hiatus.

His administration faces the formidable task of addressing economic challenges and fostering national development.
