Richard Class-Peters has been elected as the new National President of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) during the just ended GRASAG's 30th Annual National Congress at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) with a renewed call for visionary, and policy-driven representation.

The congress brought together postgraduate delegates from across the country, positioning GRASAG as a leading voice in national discourse on education, youth empowerment, and economic transformation.

Held under the theme, “From Knowledge to Enterprise: Empowering Graduate Students for Job Creation and National Development,” the congress moved beyond academic dialogue to a more action-oriented agenda, emphasizing advocacy, leadership accountability, and strategic alignment with Ghana’s broader development priorities.

Delegates engaged in robust deliberations and constitutional reviews aimed at strengthening internal governance and enhancing GRASAG’s influence as a national stakeholder.

Chairing the opening session, the Dean of Students, Prof. Mrs. Sarah Darkwah, underscored the strategic importance of graduate students as a force in shaping policy and driving national progress.

Delivering a thought-provoking keynote, Prof. Denis Warlonyo Aheto challenged participants to rise beyond passive scholarship and assume active roles as innovators, policy influencers, and nation-builders.

Further reinforcing this direction, Prof. Daniel Agyapong highlighted practical frameworks and digital ecosystems that can empower graduate entrepreneurs, while Dr. Charles Buckman Essel stressed the urgency of embedding innovation and enterprise within Ghana’s educational architecture as a pathway to sustainable economic growth.

However, the defining highlight of the congress was the contested national elections, widely seen as a referendum on the future direction of GRASAG.

In a transparent and competitive process, Richard Class-Peters secured a decisive mandate as National President, signaling a shift towards assertive, reform-driven leadership. He will be supported by Gideon Quansah as Vice President, alongside Mrs. Favour Aikins Ampong as Secretary, Glen Gyimadoh as Financial Controller, Eunice Mintah Young as Gender Commissioner, and Benedict Owusu as Organising Coordinator.

In his acceptance, Richard Class-Peters is expected to champion a progressive agenda focused on student welfare, policy advocacy, and institutional partnerships, positioning GRASAG as a formidable voice in Ghana’s socio-economic landscape.

His election reflects the confidence of delegates in a leadership that is prepared not only to represent, but to negotiate, influence, and deliver tangible outcomes for graduate students nationwide.

As the congress drew to a close, a strong sense of political awakening and unity emerged among delegates, with a collective resolve to reposition GRASAG from a representative body to a strategic pressure group capable of shaping national policy and advancing the interests of Ghanaian graduate students.

Delegates departed with renewed energy and a shared commitment to holding leadership accountable while contributing meaningfully to job creation, innovation, and national development.
