2026 FIFA World Cup: Francis Abu nears full recovery, eyes spot in Black Stars squad
Ghana international Francis Abu is reportedly on the verge of a full recovery from a serious injury, boosting his chances of featuring in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The young midfielder suffered a double fracture of the tibia and fibula in November 2025 during an international friendly against Japan, forcing him to undergo urgent surgery.
Abu successfully had the operation at Toyota Memorial Hospital before moving to France to begin rehabilitation with his club, Toulouse FC. His recovery process has progressed steadily, starting with gym work and now advancing to grass training, albeit mostly away from group sessions.
FC Toulouse provided an update on Thursday, noting that Abu is fully focused on regaining match fitness and returning to competitive action as soon as possible.
While the midfielder will not be part of the Ghana squad for upcoming friendlies against Austria and Germany, he remains in the plans of the technical team for Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign.
Abu’s anticipated return adds hope for the Black Stars as they prepare for the global tournament, with the talented youngster expected to contribute once fully fit.
