2026 FIFA World Cup: Michael Essien urges Black Stars to take it one game at a time
Former Ghana midfielder Michael Essien has urged the Black Stars to adopt a focused, match-by-match approach as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana, set to make their fifth appearance at the global tournament, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
Speaking to FIFA, Essien acknowledged the difficulty of the group but stressed the importance of maintaining the right mindset.
"That's a tough group. But there are always tough games to play, and it's up to you to win them," the 2012 UEFA Champions League winner said.
"They should take every game as it comes and do their best. It's a tournament and anything can happen.
"You just have to make sure you win your games and keep moving. Let's see what they can do," Essien added.
The famous Chelsea former player featured for Ghana at the 2006 and 2014 World Cups in Germany and Brazil.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23. They will then wrap up their group stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
