Black Stars line up Mexico friendly as final tune-up for 2026 FIFA World Cup
The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, will face Mexico national football team in an international friendly as part of their build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The match becomes the third preparatory fixture lined up for coach Otto Addo and his squad ahead of the tournament in June. Ghana had already arranged friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team in March, with the Mexico encounter adding another competitive test as the team sharpens its tactics and squad cohesion.
Mexico, one of the tournament’s three host nations, will also treat the game as a key part of their own preparations. The North Americans are scheduled to open their World Cup campaign against South Africa national football team on June 11 and will be seeking experience against African opposition beforehand.
For Ghana, the fixture is expected to serve as a practical rehearsal ahead of their Group L opener against Panama national football team, whose playing style mirrors that of Mexico in several respects. The Black Stars meet Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before further group games against England national football team and Croatia national football team.
The Ghana–Mexico friendly has been set for Friday, May 22, 2026, with the venue yet to be announced. By then, both sides are expected to have largely finalised their squads as they make their last strategic adjustments ahead of the global showpiece.
