Fianoo urges GFA to consider Schäfer as interim Black Stars coach
Former Black Stars Management Committee member Kudjoe Fianoo has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint technical director Winfried Schäfer as interim head coach of the national team.
His suggestion follows the dismissal of Otto Addo after a string of poor performances, capped by a 2-1 loss to Germany in a friendly in Stuttgart.
Speaking on Kessben Sports, Fianoo argued that Schäfer’s familiarity with the local football environment makes him a practical short-term option while the association searches for a permanent replacement.
He warned that time is limited ahead of upcoming competitions, stressing the need for continuity. According to him, Schäfer had previously been considered for the Black Stars job before being appointed technical director.
Fianoo further advised the GFA to avoid rushing into another long-term appointment, urging a more thorough process to identify a coach capable of delivering results over the short, medium and long term.
The GFA is expected to name a new Black Stars head coach in the coming days.
