A/R: Afigya Kwabre North wins Ashantifest 2026 U-17 tournament, bags GHS50k
Afigya Kwabre North District has won the Under-17 football tournament organised as part of Ashantifest 2026, taking home a cash prize of GHS50,000.
The competition, which aimed to identify and develop young football talent for future national teams, brought together 41 districts across the Ashanti Region.

Four districts: Afigya Kwabre North, Afigya Kwabre South, Kwabre East, and Atwima Nwabiagya North progressed to the semifinals after earlier rounds of matches.
Afigya Kwabre North and Atwima Nwabiagya North advanced to the final, while Afigya Kwabre South and Kwabre East competed for third place.
The final ended goalless in regulation time and was decided by a penalty shootout, with Afigya Kwabre North emerging as champions. In the third-place match, Afigya Kwabre South defeated Kwabre East 1–0.
As part of the prize distribution, Afigya Kwabre North received GHS50,000, while Atwima Nwabiagya North took GHS30,000 as runners-up. Afigya Kwabre South earned GHS20,000 for third place, with Kwabre East receiving GHS10,000.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, said measures are being implemented to identify and nurture football talent across the region. He also highlighted other upcoming activities under Ashantifest 2026.
District Chief Executive for Afigya Kwabre North, Emmanuel Jackson Agumah, noted that the District Assembly has put in place measures to sustain and finance the team.
