The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially selected Ghana to host the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The announcement was confirmed in a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo.

The selection marks the first time Ghana will host the youth tournament since 1999, a year in which the national U-20 team, the Black Satellites, won the trophy on home soil.

The 2027 tournament is set to coincide with Ghana’s 70th Independence anniversary, positioning the competition as a central feature of the national celebrations.

CAF expressed confidence in the GFA’s organizational capacity, noting Ghana’s history of successfully staging high-profile sporting events.

According to the continental governing body, they will collaborate closely with the GFA and a soon-to-be-formed Local Organising Committee (LOC) to oversee infrastructure, logistics, and security.

The U-20 AFCON is recognised as a critical platform for talent discovery, having served as the launching pad for many of Africa’s most successful international stars.

By hosting the 2027 edition, Ghana aims to provide a world-class stage for the continent's emerging talent while leveraging its passionate football culture and improving sports facilities.
