GFA bans Hohoe United FC until 2030 over league withdrawal
The Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued sanctions against Hohoe United FC following the club's unilateral withdrawal from the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
The ruling, delivered on Friday, May 1, 2026, suspends the club from the Ghana Premier League and all other GFA competitions until the 2029/2030 football season.
Upon the completion of this suspension, Hohoe United FC is further demoted to compete in Division Two under the Greater Accra Regional Football Association.
The GFA Communications department disclosed that the committee found the club guilty of misconduct and a breach of Article 13 of the Ghana Premier League Regulations.
This decision follows Hohoe United's formal notification to the GFA on April 1, 2026, stating its intent to discontinue participation during the second round of the competition, after which the club stopped honoring its scheduled matches.
As part of the ruling, the GFA’s Players’ Status Committee has been directed to grant all registered players of Hohoe United FC free agent status, devoid of encumbrances except for specific conditions related to their previous transfers.
Additionally, the club must refund all support provided by the GFA during the 2025/26 season, including equipment and financial assistance.
The GFA emphasised that these sanctions do not relieve the club of any outstanding financial obligations owed to the association or its members.
Hohoe United FC has been granted a three-day window from the date of notification to file an appeal with the Appeals Committee if they are dissatisfied with the Disciplinary Committee’s decision.
