Ibrahim Tanko says several Medeama Sporting Club players deserve places in the Ghana national football team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the club’s Ghana Premier League title-winning campaign.

Tanko led Medeama to their second consecutive league title after the club secured the championship with one match remaining.

The Tarkwa-based side recorded 17 wins and suffered five defeats during the season.

The club’s performances have sparked calls for more locally based players to be considered for the national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking to Nhyria FM, Tanko said some of his players had earned the opportunity to represent Ghana.

“I expect our players to be in the team. We have produced at least four players for the national team — Mamadu Kamaradini, Prince Owusu, Kelvin Nkrumah and Salim Adams,” he listed.

The former Ghana international also praised midfielder Salim Adams, who has scored 12 goals in 28 matches this season, and backed him for the league’s Player of the Season award.

“Salim Adams deserves the Player of the Season award. If you look at the performance, every coach in Ghana can testify that there is no doubt he is outstanding,” he said.

Tanko further spoke about his relationship with the midfielder and his role in the player’s growth.

“I have known him since his time in the U-17 national team. He is my relative, and I have also taken him to U-23 tournaments, so I know his abilities and when to push him to the best. We know his strength, power and pace. He listened to our advice and changed his attitude,” he said.

Medeama will end their season with a final league match against Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
