Jordan Ayew urges patience following Black Stars’ poor run
Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called on Ghanaians to be patient as the national team begins its period under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference in Cardiff ahead of a friendly against Wales, the Leicester City forward acknowledged Ghana’s run of four consecutive defeats but said some performances were better than the results suggested.
“We know we’ve lost four games, but we need to look at the performances. Some we didn’t perform well, some we did well. I always remember the Germany game as an encouraging performance,” he said.
On the heavy defeat to Austria, he added, “For me, Austria was not a 5-1 game, but sometimes that’s football.”
Ayew praised the appointment of the Portuguese coach and said the team was already showing improvement.
“The FA has gone in another direction and brought in a wonderful manager with a lot of experience. He’s helping us, and we’re seeing the difference,” he said.
He urged supporters to remain patient and supportive during the rebuilding phase.
“I know Ghana, and sometimes we take things a bit too personally, but we need to be patient, relaxed, and positive about the squad, the team, and the manager as well.”
The Black Stars will play Wales on June 2 in a friendly as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
