Black Stars players selected for the final 2026 FIFA World Cup squad will each receive an appearance fee of $100,000, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has confirmed.

Speaking in an interview with TV3, the minister ended speculation regarding potential changes to the tournament's payment structure, revealing that the government rejected proposals to increase the figure despite the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.

"The appearance fee for the Black Stars players has been pegged at $100,000 per player," Adams stated. "Some said that because the cedi had become stronger, we should increase it, but we said no. Because if the cedi had become weaker, would you have said that we should reduce the dollar equivalent so it gives you the same cedi amount? You would not say so."

The $100,000 figure maintains the payment standard established during the 2014 tournament in Brazil and maintained for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Historically, appearance fees for the national team rose from $50,000 in Germany (2006) to approximately $82,500 in South Africa (2010).

The financial confirmation arrives while the team undergoes pre-tournament training in Cardiff, Wales. Currently, 28 players are in camp, but only 26 will be named to the final roster. Head Coach Carlos Queiroz must drop two players before the official FIFA submission deadline on Monday, June 1.

Ghana is drawn in Group L for the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17, followed by group matches against England and Croatia.
