Kemo Ceesay has been elected President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), securing 41 of the 77 votes cast at the federation’s Elective General Assembly in Banjul on August 29, 2026.

Ceesay defeated Colonel Musa Jammeh, who received 24 votes, and Sadibou Kamaso, who polled 12.

His election brings an end to Lamin Kaba Bajo’s 12-year tenure as GFF president following the introduction of presidential term limits.

Ceesay will serve a four-year term with a mandate focused on institutional reform, transparency and grassroots infrastructure.

He will be supported by Muhammed Jagana, Bakary Bojang and Demba Conateh, who were elected first, second and third vice-presidents respectively, unopposed after opposing candidates withdrew.

Ghana Football Association President and CAF Second Vice President Kurt Okraku represented CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe at the congress and congratulated Ceesay on his election.

Speaking on behalf of Motsepe, Okraku called for unity and collective responsibility under the new administration.

“Unity, togetherness and a shared commitment to the development of football must remain at the heart of the game’s progress in The Gambia,” Okraku said.

He wished Ceesay and his administration wisdom, courage and success as they begin their four-year mandate.

Okraku also paid tribute to outgoing president Lamin Kaba Bajo for his contribution to Gambian football and his service to the sport across West Africa and at CAF.

“On behalf of President Dr Patrice Motsepe, I expressed our sincere appreciation to him for his selfless and dedicated service to football in The Gambia, across West Africa, and at CAF,” he added.

Ceesay’s administration now takes charge of the GFF as it seeks to strengthen the structures and development of football in The Gambia.
