Former Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has revealed that a compelling offer from a South African club was the primary driver behind his decision to step down from his role with the Ghanaian side.

Speaking to his squad following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Tinkler clarified that his departure was not a reaction to the match outcome, as the decision had already been finalized days earlier.

“Yesterday, this was a decision I had already made last week. And obviously, the chairman and myself, we’ve managed to keep that very quiet. And the request was that I stay until this game, which is exactly what happened,” Tinkler told the players.

Tinkler explained that the opportunity to return home to South Africa presented an offer he chose to accept, concluding his brief tenure with the Porcupine Warriors.

“This is the world of football. I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa. And that is the main reason why I made the decision,” Tinkler said.

Tinkler departs Asante Kotoko after four league matches, having recorded one win, two draws, and one defeat. He is expected to return to South Africa to take charge of Durban City.
