UENR claims 3rd place at the Honda Football Championship 2026

Having suffered a painful 4-1 penalty defeat to the University of Ghana (UG) in the semi-finals after a goalless draw, the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) were not ready to go home empty-handed.

They entered the third-place playoff with a point to prove, and they delivered.

UENR faced the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) with purpose and determination, and this was evident from the very start. They came out aggressive, hungry and focused with only one thing on their mind — winning third place. UBIDS arrived with energy of their own but could not match the intensity and hunger that UENR brought to the pitch.

UENR were dominant throughout, with Emmanuel Appiagye and Aziz Yussif both getting on the scoresheet to give their side a comfortable 2-0 victory. UENR's defense was equally impressive, shutting UBIDS out completely and giving them no room to breathe or register a goal.

UENR finished the 2026 Honda Football Championship in third place, a worthy result for a side that has impressed throughout the tournament.

The attention now turns to the grand final later today, Saturday, 28th March 2026, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Fans will be treated to a curtain raiser between Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) and Tamale Senior High School (Tamasco), kicking off at 4:30pm, before the highly anticipated final between University of Ghana (UG) and University for Development Studies (UDS) gets underway at 7:00pm.

The wait is almost over. Be there!
