Volta Regional Minister hosts breakfast meeting with SWAG on sports development
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, on Thursday, 9th April 2026, hosted a breakfast meeting for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) ahead of its 8th Anniversary Celebration.
The engagement brought together key stakeholders, including veteran sports journalist Kwabena Yeboah, to deliberate on strategies for strengthening sports development in the Volta Region.
Discussions focused on improving systems to identify, nurture, and promote sports talents through schools and grassroots structures.
The minister also outlined government’s immediate plans, including the establishment of a multipurpose sports facility for schools and grassroots sports, the development of a FIFA Category 2 standard stadium, and the creation of a dedicated secretariat to support talent identification and development.
He further highlighted initiatives such as the Minister’s Cup aimed at discovering and supporting young talents.
In recognition of his commitment to sports advancement in the region, SWAG conferred on James Gunu the role of Chief Patron for the association in the Volta Region

Meanwhile,the leadership of SWAG expressed their gratitude to the regional minister for his dedication and commitment towards improving and naturing the young ones in the region.
They pledged their support to ensure the visions and the dreams of the SWAG and government's initiatives are achieved.
