2025 AFCON qualifiers disaster: Otto Addo is 'so sorry' but not considering resignation

Coach of the Ghana Black Stars Otto Addo is not considering resigning from his post, despite calls from stakeholders, team supporters, and the media.

However, Addo has underlined his remorsefulness for the disastrous performance of the Black Stars at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars, captained on different occasions by Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Jordan Ayew, scored only three goals, were defeated thrice and drew thrice during their said campaign.

They concluded their matches on Monday, November 18, 2024, when at the Accra (Ohene Gyan) Sports Stadium, Niger beat them by 2:1.

Thus, Ghana stayed at the bottom of Group F, with their fate sealed - for the first time in 20 years, the four-time AFCON star was missing out on the tournament to be held in Morocco, North Africa, next year.

In a presser, reflecting on the Black Stars hugely criticised and uninspiring campaign, Otto Addo said, “I am ready to apologise. I am so sorry that we did not do well and qualify. I am sorry because I know how it feels and how Ghanaians are hurt. I am so sorry.”
