Black Stars: 'My heart bleeds' – GFA boss laments, signals much-needed introspection to 'fix this problem'
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) lead, Kurt Okraku, has reacted to the fortunes of the Black Stars during their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers campaign.
Ghana played six games in Group F against Angola, Sudan, and Niger, scoring three goals, drawing thrice and losing thrice.
For the first time in 20 years, the four-time AFCON champions will not partake in the continental tournament scheduled for 2025 in Morocco.
Being optimistic and calling the current challenges "temporary," Okraku said it was time for brutal honesty in solving the problems bedevilling the senior national team.
"From the highest heights of world football on the 29th of March 2022 to the lowest ebb of AFCON qualifying matches. My heart bleeds," the GFA boss wrote on Facebook, Monday, November 18, 2024, after Ghana lost to Niger, 2:1, on home soil at the Accra (Ohene Gyan) Sports Stadium.
"Definitely this is not what we want or what we bargained for. At this point, only cool heads can win and we as leaders of our sport, will stay together, be honest with ourselves, and fix this problem."
"The road to full recovery after normalisation is definitely bumpy and rough, but our collective efforts and patience will win and Ghana our beloved country will win," Okraku said.
"As a Black Stars fan and as the leader, I share in your pain and in our pain.
"We will rise from this temporary setback. It shall be well."
