The Minister for Finance, Dr Casiel Ato Forson, and his Deputy, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, have publicly filed their annual tax returns, calling on Ghanaians to prioritise tax compliance as a civic and moral responsibility.

According to the Minister, the gesture is intended to demonstrate leadership by example and reinforce the importance of accountability in public service.

He commended Ghanaian taxpayers for their consistent contributions to national development, noting that tax compliance remains critical to sustaining government operations and funding essential services such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security.

The Ministers emphasised that all citizens, including public officials, professionals, and businesses, are equal before the law and must meet their tax obligations.

He further described tax compliance not only as a legal requirement but also as a moral duty that ensures fairness and supports equitable national development.

The Finance Minister also praised the Ghana Revenue Authority for its ongoing efforts, particularly during the Tax and Good Governance Month observed in April, which aims to promote awareness and encourage voluntary compliance.

He urged the Authority to intensify public education and continue reforms to simplify tax processes, reduce compliance costs, and improve transparency.

Encouraging those yet to file their returns, the Minister advised taxpayers to take advantage of digital platforms and available support systems to regularise their tax affairs.

He concluded that building a strong tax culture is essential to enhancing economic stability, strengthening accountability, and creating a more equitable and prosperous society.
