I'm proud Shatta Wale is my ex - Michy
Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur Michelle Diamond, widely known as Michy, has triggered online discussions after openly expressing pride in her past relationship with dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale, describing him as her ex-partner while reflecting on her growth and music career.
In a resurfaced interview on The Day Show with Berla Mundi, Michy discussed her decision to step back from music at a point in her life when she felt the need to rebuild and gain stability before fully committing to the entertainment industry.
She explained that music demands significant financial investment as well as consistency and emotional readiness, factors that influenced her temporary break from the industry.
“I was going through a transformation and turning over a new chapter. I wanted to be stable and make sure I was truly ready because music is a huge investment financially and with time,” she said.
Michy also shared that music was never part of her early ambitions, but revealed that Shatta Wale played a key role in recognizing and encouraging her musical ability during their relationship.
Although she nearly walked away from music following personal changes, she said the positive feedback she received after featuring on songs and performing publicly encouraged her to stay in the industry.
“I was ready to let music go after some changes in my life, but after being featured on a couple of songs and performing them, I realized there was still a market for me. Fans kept telling me they loved my songs and performances,” she noted.
She further gained attention for her remarks about Shatta Wale, saying she takes pride in their past relationship.
“It feels so good calling him my ex. I mean, I have the biggest artist in Ghana as my ex, so I’m proud,” she said with a laugh.
Michy and Shatta Wale were once among Ghana’s most talked-about celebrity couples, known for their high-profile relationship. The two share a son and continue to co-parent following their separation.
While Shatta Wale has remained one of Ghana’s leading dancehall artists, Michy has since focused on entrepreneurship, media engagements, and personal development, with occasional appearances in music-related projects.
