Ishmael Hanson named inaugural President of Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming festival
The Chief Executive Officer of Six Degrees Africa, Ishmael Hanson, has been appointed the inaugural President of the Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival, organisers have announced.
The appointment was confirmed by Dadason Entertainment, led by Grammy-winning reggae artist Gramps Morgan, in partnership with Broadway Entertainment.
Mr. Hanson is expected to lead the vision, strategy, and execution of the festival as it prepares for its global edition scheduled for December 4–5, 2026, in Accra.
The Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival is positioned as a major platform to celebrate and deepen cultural and economic ties between Ghana and Jamaica, with thousands of participants expected from across Africa, the Caribbean, and the global diaspora.
As President, Mr. Hanson will oversee strategic direction, partnerships, programming, and stakeholder engagement, while serving as the festival’s chief ambassador to governments, investors, and international audiences.
Describing the initiative as more than an event, Mr. Hanson said the festival aims to highlight the untapped potential of Africa–Caribbean relations in global culture and commerce.
Organisers say the festival comes at a time when diaspora engagement continues to play a critical role in economic development, noting that remittances remain a major source of external financing for countries such as Ghana and Jamaica.
The two-day event will feature live music performances, cultural exhibitions, business forums, culinary showcases, and community engagement activities, designed to promote collaboration and investment between both nations.
Founder and festival partner Abdul Fatau Alhassan, also known as “Mayor of Nima,” described the initiative as the culmination of years of work and expressed confidence in Mr. Hanson’s leadership to elevate the festival to a global stage.
The programme will also explore shared cultural heritage between Ghana and Jamaica, including historical and ancestral connections, while creating opportunities for entrepreneurs, creatives, and policymakers to engage on trade and investment.
The festival is being organised in collaboration with key institutions, including the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and the Musicians Union of Ghana, among others.
Organisers say the event is expected to become a flagship platform for strengthening Ghana–Caribbean relations while driving cultural exchange and economic growth.
