“Music is the business” — Sarkodie claps back at ‘proper job’ question
Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie has stirred debate online after firmly pushing back against a question that appeared to downplay music as a serious career.
Taking to X on April 26 2026, the award-winning artiste reacted to being asked: “Apart from music, what business do you do? Like, a proper business?” — a remark he made clear did not sit well with him.
According to Sarkodie, that kind of question comes off as disrespectful, especially considering the scale and influence of the music industry globally. He emphasized that music is not a side hustle or a fallback option, but one of the biggest industries in the world — in many cases, even more demanding and structured than what people typically label as “proper businesses.”
He further explained that choosing to pursue music is a deliberate business decision. Just like any other investment, it involves risks, planning, and long-term commitment. However, when approached strategically, it can be extremely rewarding.
