Wode Maya survives road accident in Zambia, loses equipment on milestone day
Ghanaian YouTuber and travel vlogger Wode Maya has recounted a frightening road accident in Lusaka, Zambia, which left his filming equipment destroyed on the same day his YouTube channel hit two million subscribers.
In a video shared online, the content creator revealed that the crash resulted in the loss of key production tools, including cameras, microphones, and monitors, effectively halting his work.
Footage from the scene showed the extent of the damage, with Wode Maya holding the wrecked equipment, highlighting the scale of the setback.
Despite the incident, he expressed gratitude for surviving the crash, stressing that his life and safety were more important than material losses.
“The fact that we are still alive is the most important thing.
We went to the hospital to make sure everything was okay, and now we’re back home to rest and continue again,” he said.
The accident has also disrupted a documentary project that was nearing completion, forcing him to temporarily suspend production until he is able to replace the damaged equipment.
While acknowledging the impact of the loss, Wode Maya remained optimistic about returning to work and continuing his storytelling across Africa.
He also appealed for support, indicating that access to new equipment would enable him to resume production more quickly.
“I just wish I could get a good Samaritan who would say, ‘I have a camera, come and take it so you can finish what you’re doing,’ because this is a big setback for us,” he added.
The incident marks a challenging moment for the popular vlogger, even as he celebrates a major milestone in his digital career.
