Ghanaian rapper Medikal has shared insights into his journey in the music industry, emphasizing that the challenges he has faced have only strengthened his determination to succeed.

In an interview on Hitz FM on April 22, 2026, the award-winning artist explained that failure can be an important part of growth and should not discourage anyone.

“Sometimes, you need to fail in order to win. Failure shouldn’t break you as a person.

It never broke me, and I’m still here, so there’s a reason.

That’s why this year we’re pushing hard and encouraging fans to support us.

We have to win something,” he said.

Medikal also addressed discussions about his role in supporting other artists, clarifying what he means when he says he has “put people on.”

He explained that offering free collaborations to emerging artists is one of the ways he helps promote their careers.

“If you look at the industry, I’ve supported many people. Some claim I just jump on songs and take credit, but that’s not true.

I charge for verses, but not less than GHS100,000. When I do a verse for free, it means I’ve genuinely supported that artist, and I can provide proof,” he stated.

He added, “If you’re an upcoming artist and I give you a verse without charging, it means I’ve helped you. Others, like Waddle, supported me in the same way by featuring me on their songs.”

The rapper also highlighted his achievements as an independent artist, pointing to the scale of his recent projects and performances.

“I’ve contributed a lot to this industry. I’ve released many songs, dropped an album, and organized my own concert at the Accra Sports Stadium as an independent artist.

We made about GHS3 million from that show, and it sold out. Fans came from across Ghana and even from countries like Nigeria and Togo,” he shared.

Medikal said his consistent output—including releasing music, putting out an album, and organizing large events without the support of a record label—justifies his confidence in winning Album of the Year.

“That’s why I’m confident about winning AOTY this year. I’m not competing with anyone; the work speaks for itself. I’m independent, yet I’ve managed to achieve all this,” he said.

He concluded by expressing his belief that many Ghanaians will support his bid for the award, given the effort he has invested in his career.

“I believe Ghanaians will be happy if I win because they know how much work I’ve put into my craft,” he added.
