Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene says local artistes can earn as much as $100,000 a month if they strategically diversify their income sources beyond music sales.

Speaking in an interview on Prime Time with George Quaye and Merqury Quaye, the singer explained that modern musicians must rely on multiple revenue streams including naming rights, stage performances, endorsement deals and digital streaming platforms to maximise earnings.

Kuami Eugene also praised the consistency of fellow Ghanaian artistes including Medikal, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

He particularly highlighted Medikal’s creative style, stating that the rapper often freestyles successful verses without writing lyrics down.

Reflecting on his eight-year stay at Lynx Entertainment, Kuami Eugene clarified that his exit from the label was peaceful and mutual.

According to him, he rejected a ¢100,000 offer from another record label before joining Lynx Entertainment because of the label’s reputation for developing successful artistes.

During his time at the label, he became the first artiste from Lynx Entertainment to win the Artiste of the Year award at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The singer also said he became “tired” of dominating the Highlife category after winning it four consecutive times, adding that he wants to be recognised for making “good music” rather than being restricted to one genre.

Kuami Eugene further shared that while attending Salvation Army Senior High School, his colleagues nicknamed him “Sarkodie” because of his interest in rap music.

The artiste is currently promoting his latest EP, Sweet Boy, which features artistes like Gyakie, and Johnny Drille.
