Nana Ama McBrown pushes for TGMA to pay stars invited for 'Red Carpet' appearances
Award-winning actress and television personality Nana Ama McBrown has called on organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) to compensate celebrities who are invited to grace the Red Carpet. Speaking on the matter during a discussion on Onua Showtime, McBrown explained that preparing for such appearances is costly, especially for stars who are not nominated or performing at the event. She argued that it is unfair to expect celebrities to invest heavily in outfits, styling, and preparation without any form of recognition or support.
“TGMA can’t invite me to a Red Carpet while I don’t have a song.
They’re aware it’s expensive to show up,” she stated, stressing that her presence should come with value.
McBrown recalled earlier years when organisers provided fabric for guests to design their outfits, which made the Red Carpet competitive, glamorous, and memorable.
She noted that such initiatives helped elevate the event’s prestige and encouraged creativity among attendees. According to her, celebrities who are not nominated attend mainly to support the industry and entertain audiences, and therefore deserve compensation for their contribution.
She emphasized that showing up on the Red Carpet is not just about visibility but also about investing in the image of the awards
