Robert Klah, Head of Public Events and Communications at Charterhouse, organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, says they are yet to secure a venue for this year’s ceremony, with less than a month to the event.

Speaking on Hitz FM, he said the venue remains the only outstanding issue in preparations for the awards scheduled for May 9, 2026.

He explained that the usual venue, the Grand Arena, is not available as authorities managing the land have asked organisers to vacate the premises.

The Grand Arena, which has a capacity of about 4,000, has hosted the awards in recent years.

President John Dramani Mahama has also announced planned renovations at the Accra International Conference Centre, while the National Theatre of Ghana is also expected to undergo refurbishment, limiting available options.

One alternative is the Palms Convention Centre, which can host about 2,500 people.

Despite the challenge, Klah said organisers are working to secure a suitable venue and ensure a good experience for patrons.

Some industry stakeholders have raised concerns about the situation. Artiste manager Edem Mensah Tsotorme and broadcaster Ernest Adu Kumi say the lack of a large event space could affect this year’s awards and have called for engagement with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to address the issue.

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards is scheduled for May 9, 2026.
