Interior Minister leads gov't delegation to mark World Hausa Day in Accra
The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubaric Muntaka, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, led a high-powered government delegation to the 2025 commemoration of World Hausa Day in Accra.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister lauded the immense contributions of the Zongo and Hausa communities to Ghana’s development.
He underscored the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence, stressing that harmony remains the foundation for sustaining and preserving the community’s achievements for future generations.
Touching on the growing menace of drug abuse among the youth in Zongo communities, Mr. Muntaka described it as a serious threat to the future of young people.
He urged traditional and religious leaders to take an active role in addressing the problem and called on community elders to lead decisively in safeguarding the well-being of the youth.
The Minister also issued a stern warning to drug kingpins and financiers, reaffirming the government’s commitment to deploy security agencies to dismantle drug networks and work towards making Ghana a drug-free nation.
In his closing remarks, the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, commended the government for its continued support of the Muslim community.
He reiterated the importance of peace and unity while offering prayers for the President, the government, and the people of Ghana.
World Hausa Day, known in Hausa as Ranar Hausa, is celebrated annually on August 26 by Hausa communities worldwide.
The occasion highlights the rich cultural heritage, language, arts, and traditions of the Hausa people.
