Mantse Ankrah Royal Family celebrates Homowo and calls for unity
The Head of the Mantse Ankrah Royal Family, Nii Okanta Ankrah II, has urged family members to embrace unity and teamwork as vital tools for cultural preservation and social development.
He made the call during the 2025 Homowo Festival, celebrated on Wednesday, August 20, where thousands of relatives and well-wishers gathered for the annual feast of harvest.
The colourful event showcased the rich traditions of the Ga people, with drumming, dancing, sacred rituals, and the sprinkling of Kpokpoi.
Supported by his Asafoatsemei (warlords), Nii Okanta Ankrah II performed sacred rites at the Mantse Ankrah Royal Museum before leading a grand procession through the principal streets of North Kaneshie.
The ceremony was marked by chants, songs, and musket firing—symbolising the rejection of hunger and the invocation of blessings for the community.
In an interview, the Royal Head stressed that unity and cooperation are central to the survival of Ga heritage.
“When we come together as one family, we can address our basic needs and build lasting development, not only for our households but for the Ga people as a whole,” he said.
He further emphasised that strengthening these values was crucial for sustaining and protecting the Ga culture for future generations.
