Victims of the recent fire outbreak at the Afful Nkwanta slum in Kumasi have appealed to government and philanthropists for urgent assistance to help rebuild their lives.

The fire, which occurred on Monday, April 6, 2026, destroyed more than 200 makeshift structures, leaving several residents homeless and causing significant property losses estimated in thousands of Ghana cedis.

Despite the scale of destruction, no casualties were recorded.

The incident has displaced many families, including women and children, with some victims left without basic necessities such as clothing and shelter.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi FM, affected residents called on authorities to provide relief support, referencing previous assistance offered by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to victims of similar incidents in the area.

Vice Chairman of the Afful Nkwanta slum dwellers, Nusah Ibramah, emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging government agencies and charitable organisations to intervene swiftly to support recovery efforts.

The victims are hopeful that timely assistance will help them rebuild their homes and restore their livelihoods following the devastating incident.
