A/R: Kumasi Mayor orders arrest over illegal dumping at Asafo
The Mayor of Kumasi, Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has ordered the arrest of Fuseini Agumah, a branch organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for allegedly dumping waste illegally on the streets of Asafo.
The arrest took place during an operation led by the Metropolitan Chief Executive to improve sanitation in the city. The suspect was reportedly seen dumping waste and was taken into custody by police officers accompanying the Mayor.
Speaking at a Social Accountability Forum organised by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), the Mayor said the suspect had collected waste from residents for a fee before dumping it on the street.
He warned that the Assembly would take action against anyone found engaging in illegal dumping, stating that no one would be spared.
The Mayor also outlined the Assembly’s expenditure on sanitation, noting that a significant portion of its budget for goods and services is spent on waste management.
He urged residents to support efforts to keep the city clean, adding that more waste bins have been provided across the metropolis.
