The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA) has raised alarm over what it describes as a growing wave of deadly attacks targeting civilians along the Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulimakom highway in the Upper East Region.

In a statement issued on April 27, 2026, the group expressed “grave concern” about the persistent insecurity on the stretch, alleging that the attacks are being carried out by Kusasi ethnic militia. According to MAYA, the situation has instilled fear among commuters and disrupted movement within the enclave.

The latest incident occurred on April 25, 2026, when buses belonging to the Metro Mass Transit, traveling under military escort, were ambushed. The attack reportedly resulted in multiple casualties, including both fatalities and injuries.

MAYA identified four individuals who lost their lives in the incident as Safia Dauda, Saratu Mustapha, Abubakar Ramatu, and Hasia Bukari.

The Association condemned the killings in strong terms, describing them as “barbaric acts” against innocent civilians. It called on the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Ghana Police Service to take immediate and decisive action to address the situation.

MAYA is demanding a full-scale investigation into the attacks, the arrest and prosecution of those responsible, and the dismantling of any criminal networks believed to be behind the violence.

Despite the tensions, the group also appealed to the youth of Mamprugu to remain calm and avoid retaliation. It stressed that violence would only worsen the situation and urged restraint while authorities work to restore peace and security.

The statement was signed and issued by the Executive Committee of MAYA, with copies forwarded to the press, regional chairmen, and national security officials.

The Bolgatanga–Bawku–Pulimakom highway has in recent months become a flashpoint of security concern, with repeated reports of attacks threatening lives and disrupting transport services in the region.
